LIZENSKA ROSE-HAYDEN is a timid little three year old from the village of Galette Chambon who lives with her father, five sisters, and one brother. Her father works as a tap-tap driver which is like a chauffeur who makes money when he gives people a ride in his truck. He does make a decent living but not enough to feed his children as well as send them to school. He has to pay someone to keep the youngest children, including Lizenska, but he thinks that it would be better if she could go to school, learn, and be fed there instead of paying someone to keep her and she not learn anything. Since she is old enough to start three year old kindergarten, he feels it is best that she start school. She cannot go, however, unless she has a sponsor. Lizenska enjoys playing with her siblings, singing, sleeping, and drawing. She is excited about going to school so that she can learn to color with real crayons. When she grows up, she wants to become a nurse.
