Genise is a gentle, loving twelve year old girl from the village of Galette Chambon. She lives with her parents, five sisters, and three brothers. Her parents work in a garden as share croppers and they also make and sell charcoal to supplement their income. Genise’s favorite things to do are clean house, cook, clean the dishes, and help her mom in general with all of her brothers and sisters. She loves learning and is extremely excited about going to school this year. She is only in the 3rd grade even though she is twelve years old because she and her siblings have had to take turns going to school because their parents couldn’t afford for all of them to go to school at the same time. She wants to be a cook one day when she grows up, and she loves everything about her country of Haiti.
