Venia is a sweet little four year old from the village of Galette Chambon who lives with her mother, three sisters, and one brother. Her mother is a vendor in the village who tries to go to market once per week to sell her goods to the public. This year had been hard for her to make a living because it is dangerous to go to market and it is even more dangerous to go into the city to purchase more good to sell. She cannot take the risk to take Venia with her when she goes to market or to the distributor because of dangerous gangs that rob people on the street. So when she goes to market, she has to pay someone to keep Venia so she can go. This completely negates any profit she might make when she goes to market. Now that Venia is old enough to go to school, it would help her mother so much if Venia could go to school so that she can not only learn and improve her future, but she can also be safe during the day as well as eat a hot meal every day. She cannot go to school without the help of a sponsor. Venia enjoys playing with her siblings and friends as well as helping her mother around the house. She is excited about going to school so that she can learn to write her name. When she grows up, she hopes to become a nurse.
