Falide Prospere is a 17 year old girl from Galette Chambon. She has two brothers and three sisters and all of them work hard to try to maintain the family business. Her parents have a small market inside their house where they sell dry goods and fresh vegetables when they are able to grow them in their garden. Falide loves to go to school and she is thankful for sponsorships that make it possible for her to go. Otherwise, her parents could not afford to send all of their children to school and she is afraid she would be the one that had to sit out because she is the oldest. She says that she has not been able to go to school every year since she was five. She and her siblings have had to take turns going to school, and that is why she is 17 and in the 7th grade. When she is not in school, she reads as much as she can and she studies French because she wants to be a doctor one day, and doctors in Haiti need to know French. She prays every day that she can get a sponsor so that she does not have to sit out of school any more years and she can finish high school and go on to med school. She is determined to become a doctor one day, and staying in school is the way to do that.
